Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) has voiced concern over passage of Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) Bill 2019 by the Senate Standing Committee on National Health Services, despite the fact that it was rejected by its own subcommittee.
Moreover, the doctors` representative body urged the members of the upper house to reject the bill when it is put up for voting.
The council is going to complete its 240 days under PMDC Ordinance 2019 which will lapse on Sept 5.
The ordinance was promulgated by President Dr Arif Alvi on Jan 5. Under this ordinance, 17-member council was formed to run the affairs of the council.
Four members of the council were de-notified after they developed differences over decisions of the council.
In a statement, PMA Secretary General Dr S.M.
Qaisar Sajjad said the association had already rejected the PMDC Ordinance under which selected council was formed, which was in total violation of the PMDC Ordinance1962.
`PMA has always stressed upon making PMDC an autonomous, independent, transparent, democratic and vibrant body to look after the related issues in a democratic and transparent way.
`Through this ordinance, we think that there will be no change in the affairs of PMDC and it will remain a continuation of the mess which we have witnessed for decades,` he said.
