PMDC appoints new registrar in compliance with Senate body directions

The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has appointed a new registrar in compliance with directions from the Senate Standing Committee on National Health Services (NHS).

Retired Brig Dr Hafizuddin Ahmed Siddiqui has been appointed registrar for a three-year term, which can be extended for another three years.

The standing committee, which is chaired by Senator Mian Ateeg Sheikh, had been unhappy that acungcharge ofthe ofñce of registrar had been given to an ofñcer, and recommended appointing a permanent registrar as soon as possible.

The actingregistrarhadsaid thatshe hasalready asked management to give charge of the post to someone else, and the committee was informed that the appointment process was in its final stages.

According to a notification issued by PMDC President Dr Tariq Iqbal Bhutta, available with Dawn, the appointment was made af ter receiving applications and other steps, such are preliminary interviews, evaluations and final interviews.

The July 17 letter also says the new registrar should report within a week and other terms and conditions of the appointments will be conveyed separately.

Dr Siddiqui previously served as registrar of the council from Sept 15, 2015, to March 12, 2016, when he was appointed by retired Maj Gen Dr Azhar Mahmood Kayani, who was heading the caretaker council at thetime. Dr Kayani left after holding elections in four months, but Dr Siddiqui stayed on for another two.

Dr Siddiqui confirmed that he has been appointed PMDC registrar.

He told Dawn: `I am currently working as additional registrar at Mohiuddin Islamic University and I have informed the university management that I will quit due to the new engagement.

Head of PMDC tribunal notified The Ministry of NHS has notified the appointment of retired justice Syed Shabbar Raza Rizvi as chairperson of medical tribunals under the PMDC Ordinance 2019.

According to the notification issued by NHS Secretary Dr Allah Bakhsh Malik, theterms and conditions of the chairperson`s services will be accordingto the prescribed rules.

Mr Rizvi was nominated to the post by Chief Justice of Pakistan Asif Saeed Khosa.

Prime Minister Imran Khan nominated the other four members of the tribunal retired justices Riaz Ahmad and Mehmood Maqbool Bajwa and professors Javaid Raza Gardezi and Saeed Qureshi.

According to the rules available with Dawn, the tenure for the chairperson and members is three years.

Health sector stakeholders, medical colleges and PMDC employees will be able to file cases with the tribunal. It will hear cases in federal and provincial capitals, and there will be atleast two membersa retired judge and a technical expert on each bench.
