The Higher Education Commission (HEC) will take steps for developing academic relations with Morocco in order to promote higher education and collaborative research between higher education institutions of both countries, said HEC Chairman Dr Tariq Banuri.
The HEC chairman was meeting with the Ambassador of Morocco, Mohamed Karmoune during the latter`s visit to the Commission Secretariat, an HEC statement issued on Sunday says.
Mr Banuri is quoted as saying that HEC will build linkages with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Morocco through the Moroccan Embassy in Islamabad.
He stressed on the need for initiating f aculty and student exchange programmes between Pakistani and Moroccan universities.
The Moroccan ambassador said Pakistan and Morocco enjoy friendly relations and that closer collaboration in some areas including education can help strengthen bilateral relations further.
Dr Banuri, who also has additional charge as coordinator general Comstech, emphasised that endeavours should be made to initiate programmes for the promotion of science and technology in Organisation of Islamic Cooperation countries.
He said Pakistani and Moroccan universities should be encouraged to collaborate in projects in specific fields including water, food security and energy.
