The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has decided not to demand eight class diploma from the students of religious seminaries for recognizing the degree of Shahadatul Alia fil Uloomal Arabia Wal Islamia, which is equivalent to Bachelors degree.
“Our Equivalence and Accreditation Committee has changed the criteria for attesting degrees of Shahadatul Alia,” said Chairman HEC, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed while talking to Dawn.
Earlier, the HEC committee also checked middle class certificates for attesting the Shahadatul Alia degree. The HEC chairman said the decision was taken because students and administration of religious seminaries were facing problems for submitting middle class certificates.
A press release issued by HEC, as recommended by the Committee, the degree will be recognized equivalent to bachelors upon qualifying compulsory subjects of English and Pakistan Studies at Bachelors level from Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) or any other charted university, as well as award of equivalence certificate for Sanvia Aama and Sanvia Khasa from Inter-Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC).
The committee has also decided that the Wafaq concerned may admit the students to Sanvia Aama as per their own system of education and HEC will not require middle school certificate from the holders of Deeni Asnad.
It has also decided that students who desire to obtain admission in formal Masters degree, other than Islamic Studies or Arabic in a University after Shadadatul Alia, may opt any other two elective subjects at bachelors in addition to compulsory subjects.
