HEC dominate National Junior Athletics with seven gold medals

Higher Education Commission (HEC) had a solid start to the 5th National Junior Athletics Championship which began at the Artillery Regimental Centre in Attock on Sunday.

Of the 13 final results received by this correspondent, HEC had won seven golds, Punjab and Army two golds each while WAPDA and Sindh had claimed one gold each.

Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa did well on the first day in the 5th Youth Championship by claiming four golds out of 12 events finals conducted. Punjab and Sindh took three golds each while HEC claimed two golds.

As per details of the junior event, Mohammad Ismail of Army won gold in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.10 seconds, Punjab’s Tariq Fareed took silver by clocking 15.56 seconds while HEC’s Abu Bakar claimed bronze with a time of 15.64.

The 200m women’s event gold went to HEC’s Esha Effan with a time of 26.40 seconds, Safinaz Suliman of Sindh with a time of 26.70 claimed silver while Khoula Umar of HEC with a time of 27.20 snatched bronze.

The men’s long jump gold was won by Usman Zafar of Punjab with 6.78m, Mohammad Mhosin of Army with 6.20m claimed silver and Zain Ali of Punjab with 6.15m took bronze.

Bahawal Khan of HEC claimed 1500 metre event gold with a time of 4:10.70, Abdul Wahab of Army with a time of 4:13.69 got silver while Usama Hasan of HEC with a time of 4:14.20 claimed bronze.

Mumtaz Niamat of Sindh won 1500m women’s event gold by clocking 5:40.38, Bushra Farman of Punjab with a time of 5:42.28 took silver while Sapna of HEC claimed bronze by clocking 5:45.97.

Mahnoor Khan of HEC snared the women’s discus throw gold by recording 26.56m, Manahil of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with 26.37m claimed silver while HEC’s Sonia Farooq clinched bronze with 20.85m.

In discus throw junior men’s event, Abdullah Nawaz of Punjab with 54.21m claimed gold, Army’s Mohammad Azam with 45.11m took silver while Army’s Osama with 45.04m snared bronze.

In women’s long jump, Mahnoor of HEC took gold with 5.02m, Munaza of HEC with 4.79m took silver while Sindh’s Hafsa Naveed with 4.52m claimed bronze.

Mohammad Munir of WAPDA took the 200m men’s gold with a time of 22.44 seconds, Sharjeel of Punjab with 22.60 seconds took silver and Ali Ahmed of HEC with 22.65 seconds snared bronze.

The men’s hammer throw gold went to Army’s Mohammad Waqas who managed a throw of 48.97m, Mohammad Dawood Saleh of HEC got silver with a throw of 48.08m while Mohammad Jawwad Awan of AJK with a throw of 17.75m claimed bronze.

Mohammad Hasnain Dogar of HEC claimed high jump gold with 1.90m, Usman Ghani of HEC claimed silver with 1.80m while Sindh’s Habib Paracha with 1.70m claimed bronze.

Khoula Umar of HEC took women’s high jump gold with 1.30m, Maria of Punjab claimed silver while Mahnoor of HEC snared bronze.

The 400m women’s event gold went to Esha Effan of HEC with a time of 1:02.09, Mahnoor of HEC with 1:03.03 clinched silver while Punjab’s Maria Khan with a time of 1:08.09 claimed bronze.
